So, Episode 1 of the great Star Wars Saga is The Phantom Menace! In this movie two Jedi Knights (Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui Gon Jinn) escape a hostile blockade to find allies and come across a young boy (Anakin Skywalker), who may bring balance to the Force, but the long dormant Sith (Darth Maul) resurface to reclaim their old glory!

The Trade Federation cut off all routes to the planet Naboo, where Queen Amidala and her very small army were based. The Trade Federation has a massive droid army that comes in to battle later in the movie, but Queen Amidala must rely on the assistance of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi to resolve the issue at hand with The Trade Federation.

Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, with help from a few of Queen Amidala’s officers, steal a ship and are able to escape Naboo, but unfortunately their ship was hit while escaping as they were under hostile fire, so they made it safely to a nearby planet called Tatooine.

When they landed on Tatooine, they landed on the outskirts, away from the town for the Queens protection. Qui-Gon Jinn, Padme, and Jar Jar Binks (a Gungan native from Naboo, under water village) went into town to try to purchase the parts they needed for the ship, they were stuck like a couple of ducks when they found out that Watto, the Toydarian junk dealer, did not accept the currency that Qui-Gon and Padme had to offer.

Anakin Skywalker and his mother Shmi Skywalker were slaves of Watto’s, and Anakin worked for Watto in his shop. A bad sand storm was forming so Anakin insisted that Qui-Gon, Padme, and Jar Jar Binks take shelter with him and his mother. While their, Qui-Gon had taken a small sample of Anakin’s blood and sent it to Obi-Wan, who was protecting the ship, and had him analyze the sample.

Qui-Gon had a special communicator that allowed him to take the blood sample and send it to Obi-Wan for analysis. He tested Anakin’s midichlorian count, which is how the Jedi Council determines whether or not you could be a Jedi for training. Anakin’s count was higher than every Jedi including Master Yoda!

Qui-Gon quickly learned that Anakin builds and races pods, as Anakin’s mother worries about her very young son, Shmi knows the only way to help Qui-Gon and Padme, is for Anakin to race in the next pod race, as the winning purse is more than enough for Qui-Gon to buy his parts from Watto, for their ship. The next day, Qui-Gon went to see Watto and placed a few bets with him.

In short, Anakin won the pod race, Qui-Gon got the parts he needed, and Anakin was set free. Watto would not allow Anakin and Shmi to be freed, but Anakin was. Qui-Gon was going to look after young Anakin, take him in front of the Jedi Council to see if he was able to be trained as a Jedi. It was a very hard decision for Anakin to make, leaving his mother on Tatooine and going with Qui-Gon.

On their travels back to the ship, a Sith by the name of Darth Maul tried to end their journey, but was not successful as Obi-Wan had started the ship and stayed low, and Qui-Gon force jumped onto the door that was left open for him! Whoosh, they were off and heading back to Naboo to end the Trade Federation’s invasion.

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Padme and Jar Jar Binks traveled to Coruscant to meet with the Supreme Chancellor and to have the Jedi Council meet Anakin Skywalker, Qui-Gon tells the council that he will take Anakin as a padawan learner and that Obi-Wan is ready for the Jedi trials to become a Jedi Master.

After meeting with the Jedi Council and the Supreme Chancellor they then travel back to Naboo, to free the prisoners the Trade Federation were holding hostage, and the Jedi went with Jar Jar Binks to the City Underwater to see if the Gungan army would fight with them against the massive droid army the Trade Federation had. The Gungan Leader agreed to work with the Jedi and Queen Amidala and send his troops into battle.

The Jedi then took a secret path to the city to help Padme, who was working on freeing the rest of the prisoners. They all escaped, pilots getting in their fighters and heading out to destroy the Trade Federation’s Command Base! The Gungans and Droids start battling, and what an epic battle it is. Meanwhile, Padme and the Jedi are looking for the Trade Federation leaders to end this battle.

There, as their running through the hangar, eager to find the Federation Leaders, stands the Sith that had fought with Qui-Gon on Tatooine, Darth Maul. Anakin was hiding in one of the fighter ships and started it up to help Padme and her officers who were trapped with droids on both sides of them shooting fiercely at them. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are battling Darth Maul.

Anakin’s ship was on auto pilot and took him to where the other pilots had gone, to try to blow up the Federation Leaders Command Ship. R2-D2 gets Anakin’s fighter off of auto pilot for their safety, so Anakin could maneuver around, and away from enemy fighters. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are still battling the evil Sith, Darth Maul.

The Jedi force Maul into this area of ray shields* so they wait for the shields to open up, Qui-Gon begins to meditate as Darth Maul watches. Obi-Wan had been knocked off the side and delayed a bit and was at the beginning of this ray shield, as Qui-Gon and Darth Maul were towards the end of it. Anakin’s fighter was hit, but he mad a safe landing inside the Federations Command Ship.

The ray shield* opens up, one panel at a time, Darth Maul exits, then Qui-Gon behind him. Obi-Wan got shut in the ray shield again, as it closed before he could escape it. While Obi-Wan watches Qui-Gon and Darth Maul fighting with their lightsabers something tragic happened, Darth Maul killed Qui-Gon Jinn! Obi-Wan screams in anger!

Obi-Wan now looking very eager and determined to kill this Sith, that just killed his master. The ray shield opens up, Obi-Wan races out ad starts fighting Darth Maul. While Anakin is pinned down in his fighter that is over heated, droids start approaching his ship. Darth Maul now has Obi-Wan hanging for his life, in this open hole that leads to god knows where.

As the droids get closer to Anakin and R2-D2, working hard to get the fighter back up and running so that he can escape, miraculously it comes back on, and Anakin starts shooting the droids. He let off a mega shot from his fighter and it happens to destroy the main generator of the Federations Command Ship. Amazed and wondering how this huge command center was exploding, were the other pilots outside he command ship fighting to stay alive.

Boom! It explodes! All the droids on Naboo, that the Gungan Army was fighting deactivated and were destroyed. Still holding on for his life, Obi-Wan uses the force and jumps up over Darth Maul, uses the force and grabs Qui-Gon’s lightsaber and cut Darth Maul in half! A huge celebration took place on Naboo and the Supreme Chancellor even made the visit to congratulate Queen Amidala on their victory!

* – the ray shield is a door like mechanism that is on a timer and opens and closes every couple of minutes. The ray shield is very dangerous, I believe it has the same effect as if you were cut by a light saber. If you were going out a set of glass doors and pushed the door open, minus the pushing that would be the best way to describe it.
